Seeking Parent Volunteers!

Concert Choir Families:

Greetings,
Next week on Thursday is our first concert: Voices and Strings!  As I believe you know, we will be hosting the King Philip HS Choir as well as having our own Choir and Orchestra students for dinner prior to the concert.  We need donations of "snacks" to go along with their pizza- so baked goods, individual chips, fruits... those kinds of things.  Those can be dropped off before 5PM on Thursday 10/26.  If you bake anything can you please list any particular ingredients that could be allergy related (nuts etc)

We also would love a couple of volunteers to help: 1. pick-up and order the pizza and 2. to help with serving to the students!  If you can come a bit early to the concert and help, please email me back and let me know!  It would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you for any time you can offer!

Just a reminder of the upcoming dates and schedule:
This Thursday October 19: Choir rehearsal at KPHS, bus leaves 5:30 and returns a little after 8:00pm

Sight Singing Factory (we will discuss this Friday!)
Our choral program at the middle and high school levels is beginning a new initiative this year aimed at improving music reading for singers at all levels.  We are implementing a very useful online tool called "Sight Singing Factory" that provides an endless supply of melodies for students to sight-read and sing (with customized difficulty levels made into "assignments").  Each student will get a code that they will use to register an email address.  There will be simple "homework" assignments (weekly or bi-weekly) to sing a melody into your phones/ipads/computer that will get recorded and then submitted directly to me (only to be accessed by me).  This will allow me to help singers to improve their reading abilities.  This program has already started at Ahern Middle, and will be starting up for FHS singers at the end of this week.  Students at this point will only be graded on completion of the assignments.

See you in rehearsals!

Quick Choir Update: Opening Day

Hi singers,

I know I did a lot of talking today going over everything for choir.  That's not typical of what rehearsals are like.  Every rehearsal from now on will be spent only making music!

All the information we went over is in the syllabus and on the website.  If you have any questions let me know.

Also let me know if you have any trouble accessing Dropbox.  I want to make sure everyone has access to Dropbox by the end of the week.  You can listen to all the music there!

Finally, get your parent/student signoffs back to me and email me back the Dropbox Assignment,
If you're new, get your concert attire orders in as soon as you can!
Finally, if you feel up to it--consider designing this year's Choir T-Shirt!

It's going to be a fantastic year!  Listen through the Faure Requiem when you get a chance,

Jazz Updates: Opening Week

Lab Jazz Choir and Vocal Jazz Ensemble:

Just a few updates before we start our school year together tomorrow!

- Lab Jazz will have their first rehearsal during the school day tomorrow
- Vocal Jazz Ensemble will have their first rehearsal tomorrow night (Tuesday) 6:30-8:00pm

- Please bring a binder and pencil with you to rehearsal (as well as a water bottle--highly recommended).
I will provide hard copies of all the music

- All music and part tracks for the Fall Curriculum are on Dropbox.  Using Dropbox, you can listen and download any of these tracks!

This morning, I'm going to register all of your school email addresses with Dropbox (this email sometimes gets sent to Bulk/Spam).   If you are already registered/have access to Dropbox don't worry about it.  If you would prefer, I can use a non-school email address, just email me back and let me know.

Once you receive this email, it will have simple instructions on how to set up your Dropbox.  Once you have access to the Dropbox, you can then set up the Dropbox app on your phone or ipad or other device.

Vocal Jazz Ensemble -- please make sure you have listened through the recordings before rehearsal tomorrow (hopefully you've already done this and have started looking at your parts!)

Lab Jazz -- try to access the recordings and listen to them through if you get the chance.  If you have trouble with Dropbox, I'll help you out tomorrow.

See you tomorrow!

Choir Updates - One Week To Go!

Singers,

We are now a week away from our first rehearsal together!

- All Part Tracks and recordings for the Fall Term Curriculum are now on Dropbox!  Vocal Jazz Tracks are being uploaded this week--most VJE Part Tracks are now up.

- Vocal Jazz Ensemble will rehearse Tuesday evening on the first day of school, 6:30-8:00pm

- Section Leaders--Leadership meetings will begin Friday the first week of school

--NEW UPDATE:
Going forward this year, all email communication from the music faculty will be to your school email addresses.  You will NEED to routinely check your school email addresses to ensure you receive all the emails.  This will align us with the rest of the District and Music Program.  I would also ask that you use your school email address when contacting myself or any of the Music Faculty as well.

I will continue to post updates and information on this website and the Twitter account.

You can still use your personal email address to Register/Access Dropbox and to "Subscribe" to this Blogger email.

I will be sending you a detailed introductory email to all of your student email addresses, and will be asking you to respond back so I know you received it.

If you have any questions, please let me know!  Thanks,

Excited to see you all very soon,
Mr. Raymond

Friday Meet-Up Update

Hi singers,

Just a quick heads-up about Friday's choir meet-up.  We will start at 6:30, but I will probably get there around 5:30 or so.  This is an informal get-together, and is not-required.  I would like to get all section leaders together if possible, but certainly everyone else is welcome!  If you are in contact with any of the incoming Freshmen, please feel free to invite them too.

Feel free to bring some snacks/goodies!  The plan is to put together some choir folders, talk about opening day, listen to some of the music, and then check out the marching band preview show.  Everyone that comes to the meet-up will get their music ahead of time.

Hope you've all had a wonderful summer!  I hope you are all excited for the upcoming year of music!

Curriculum and August Updates!

Two weeks away from our first rehearsals of the year!

The Choir Summer Session will take place this Friday, August 25 at 6:30pm.  This is an informal and entirely optional get-together for anyone in choir (section leaders are strongly encouraged to attend).  We will discuss the school year, put folders together, listen to some of the music, and then watch the marching band preview show!  Bring some goodies and drinks if you'd like!

The 2017-2018 Choir and Vocal Jazz Curriculums are now complete!  They have been posted on the website tabs, as well as emailed out.  Part assignments for Fall 2017 were also emailed out today.  If you did not receive a part assignment and/or curriculum document, please email me at: raymondb@foxborough.k12.ma.us and I will email it out to you.

Recordings and Part Tracks are being continuously updated on Dropbox throughout the week for both Choir and Jazz.  If you are not currently connected to Dropbox and would like to be connected before the start of the school year, please email me at the above link, and I will get you connected!  It's a really good idea to start listening to the recordings before the first rehearsal...this will really help you start the year prepared!

As always, if you have any questions, or need access to Dropbox files or part assignments, please email me: raymondb@foxborough.k12.ma.us

See you soon!

July Summer Updates!

Happy Summer!

I hope you are all well!  Thank you to those of you who helped out with SIMC...you rock!  Just wanted to pass along a couple quick updates.

First, keep an eye out on Dropbox over the next week.  There will be several updates including curriculums for Choir, Vocal Jazz and Lab Jazz!  There are new charts for VJE posted now (Radio Song and Rainy Days and Mondays). Also, you will find Recordings and Part Tracks.  Over the summer, casual listening of the recordings and part tracks can help you be more prepared for the start of the year.

Second, our masterwork for the Fall is the Faure Requiem!  This is an incredible masterwork for choir, soloists, and orchestra!  You will love this experience.  We will once again be pairing with KPHS.  You can find a digital score and recording on Dropbox now! Part tracks to come in the next couple days.

The full performance calendar for 2017-2018 can be found on the website:  www.foxborochoir.blogspot.com

Finally, check your emails for updates regarding the Choir summer social event hosted by your Section Leaders (event was posted on Instagram)!

Have a wonderful summer...take some time to practice...and take some time to have fun and relax!  Can't wait to see you all again real soon!

Mr. Raymond
