Part Track Updates

Singers:

I hope each of you had a wonderful weekend and are enjoying your holiday break.

Just wanted to give you the heads up, Part Tracks for Three Madrigals, Ave Verum, and Muie Rendera are now uploaded to Dropbox via the Part Tracks folder under Concert Choir.  Reference recordings for all Spring Curriculum can be found there as well.  I highly encourage you to be actively listening to these tracks throughout the week!

Also as I mentioned before the break.  Stile Antico--one the greatest early music choirs in the world--is coming to Boston on February 24.   For information including how to purchase tickets, visit their website at: http://www.stileantico.co.uk/concerts

If you can afford the ticket price and are able to get up to Boston, I would definitely encourage you to go! You can also check out some of their many fantastic albums on their website!  This would be a great way to learn about singing Early/Renaissance Era Choral Music and hear it sung at the highest level by some of the finest choral singers on the planet.

Have a wonderful week, keep an eye out for further updates regarding part tracks and more,

Mr. Raymond

Friday Updates

Singers:

First, thank you to those of you who came out last night to hear and support the 8th grade singers and Ms. Shetler! It was greatly appreciated by all!

Second thank you to those who came early to help with risers today--much appreciated!

Lots of positive takeaways from this morning's rehearsal!  It is a tough space to sing in acoustically but you guys are working hard and you're on track.  Keep working hard on those tricky harmony sections in Colder Weather and Northern Lights overall focused air and expressive energy.  It would be best if we could do it by memory!  This will take weekend practice and work.  I'm in the process of uploading today's video of colder weather to YouTube to share with you all.

Junior District Auditions Saturday

A HUGE good luck tomorrow to all of the Foxboro Musicians Auditioning for Junior Districts!

Ms. Shetler and I are both very proud of you

Quick reminder: Bus is rolling at 12:30 from the Ahern school, don't be late!
Dress Professionally: Dress Pants/Dresses, brighter colors, avoid scarves and overly distracting jewelry, wear comfortable shoes/flats.

The most important thing: don't be nervous and don't apologize if you make a mistake!
You have all prepared and worked, and you have no reason to be nervous!  If you make a mistake, keep moving no matter what.  Take your time and take a couple deep breaths before you start.

Remember the audition starts the minute you walk into the room so you want to carry yourself with confidence.

The first thing that goes when you are nervous or hyped up is your breath support.  So if you stay relaxed, and use your air effectively without taking extra breaths or breathing in the middle of words/phrases, and you focus on making music and singing with the recording with a carefree, pleasant expression, I think each of you should do very well!

Very proud of you all, and look forward to seeing you do your best tomorrow!

-Mr. Raymond

Thanksgiving Week Updates

THANKSGIVING WEEK UPDATES

- Vocal Jazz Ensemble Rehearsal Tuesday Evening 6:30-8:00

- No Regular Sectional This Week: Makeup Sectionals After School Tuesday

- Freshmen: PLEASE Consider auditioning for Junior Districts!  This would be an excellent opportunity for you to audition for a festival, and to be around/inspire the younger auditioners who are likely nervous (some of whom are auditioning for the first time).  This is your chance to start becoming a role model.  This is also a chance for you to try to be a part of an honors music festival this year where you would get to learn new music and work with a guest conductor!

- Pep Rally Wednesday: The Concert Choir will sing the National Anthem
Please wear your Choir Shirts!

Congratulations to the following singers who have been accepted to the Senior District Choir:

Ryan McCormack - All-State Recommendation
Jake Parkman - All-State Recommendation
Carly Rayburg
Jessica Hoyt
Emily Kaeser

I am very proud of everyone who auditioned.  I felt everyone was prepared, and whether you made it or not, I hope this was a learning experience for all involved.  There were positive aspects to everyone's audition, as well as things to work on going forward. Congratulations to those who were accepted.

See you in rehearsals!
-Mr. Raymond

Senior Districts Auditions Update

Students Auditioning for Senior Districts:

The auditions are this Saturday, November 19th at King Philip HS
The bus will leave FHS at 12:20pm for our 1:45pm audition time

Dress professionally:
Men wear Ties/Dress Pants, Dark Shoes and Socks
Women wear Dresses/Dress Pants, consider lighter color tones with comfortable dress shoes/flats, avoid scarves and overly-distracting jewelry

Remember to be in "audition mode" as soon as you walk into the room.  The confident demeanor should start the second you walk in the room.  NEVER apologize for anything either before, during, or after your audition!!  Believe in yourself and your abilities.  If you make a mistake DONT STOP--keep going and avoid making faces or apologizing.

Before you start, take deep breaths and mentally and physically focus yourself.  Take your time on the first breath, and work on staying relaxed--don't allow nerves to cause you to wander your eyes around or fidget with your hands.  Just enjoy the music, sing with a light-hearted expression, and trust your preparation.

Before you sight sing, take your time, don't let adrenaline cause you to start before your ready.  Take time to establish the key in your head (sing up to Sol and down to Sol).  Look for any tricky skips or rhythms before you start.  Count off the melody in your head slowly and once you begin, don't stop!

Proud of you all!  I'll be there with you through the audition process.  Let me know if you have any questions or are unclear about anything,

Mr. Raymond

Halloween Party!

Concert Choir Students:

I want to send you out a reminder about the Halloween Party coming up tomorrow from 6-9pm.

Our social chair, Kelli McCarthy has coordinated a fun social event (Halloween Party) for this Saturday, from 6-9pm at the South Foxboro Community Center located on the corner of South St. and North Grove St.

This party is not school sponsored or affiliated, and attendance (while encouraged) is entirely optional and voluntary.  The event is a fun, social gathering, and is taking place in a public space.  While I trust that you are all mature enough to make good choices, you are responsible for your actions for this event which includes being respectful of the Community Center Hall.

Even though this is not a school affiliated event, you are expected to abide by all school rules.  Kelli's parents have graciously offered to supervise the event, which will include games, snacks, pizza, and more.

This is a costume party, so feel free to dress up, however no masks!

Please see the emailed flyer for further details.  Kelli would like the grades to bring the following items:
FRESHMAN: snacks (chips, fruit, ex.)
SOPHOMORES: desserts (cookies, cupcakes, ex.)
JUNIORS: candy (M&Ms, candy corn, ex.)
SENIORS: drinks (soda, water, ex.)

Have fun, make good decisions, and enjoy yourselves!
Just under a week now until our first concert!

Get a lot of sleep this week and next week.  Conserve your voices, drink water, and rest.  In rehearsal, make sure you are mentally preparing yourself for performance by using a lot of air and breath support and singing out confidently with exceptional vowel shapes and proper balanced positioning.

Proud Of You!

Concert Choir:

I want to mention how proud I am of all of you in your first rehearsal combined with the orchestra!  It is really hard to sing on stage with full orchestra, and you held your own.  I know Ms. Tedoldi and I were really pressing you all for more air and more sound, but I want you to know that I was really pleased with how the first rehearsal combined went.

I got really positive feed back from the college students who were there observing, and Ms. Tedoldi said she was very impressed with the quality of the sound you are producing.

I hope you feel optimistic and positive about our rehearsal this morning.  It was promising!  Keep working on your confidence, air, breath support, and projection, and I think this will be a fantastic concert!

I hope to see many of you at Senior District Practice Today!!!!  Anyone that comes to the practice will get their shirt today (provided that they come in)--everyone else will get there's tomorrow in rehearsal.

Thanks Singers!!! YOU ROCK!! I am proud of you,

Mr. Raymond
